The English 9/10 concept supposes that homework is assigned when an in-class task is not completed, or when a long-term project could be worked on outside of school. Mrs. Stewart and Mr. Stratton consider each 37-minute class the best opportunity to improve reading and writing skills for all students, and expect that with good instruction and time management on the part of teachers, motivated and efficient students will be able to complete their required work in class.

However, on several occasions each grading quarter, students will be engaged in long-term projects or writing assignments which will require time spent working on English outside of class. When those occasions come up, we will keep you informed in the areas below.


What We Are Studying Right Now:
Short Stories

During this unit, students will read several short stories in order to work on both basic and advanced skills, including

(1) active reading (text and margin marks)
(2)
analyzing the purposeful things authors do (literary elements)
(3) answering questions in writing
(4) using text details, including direct quotes, to support and answer
(5) using transitional words and phrases to organized writing
(6) BRATS paragraph writing

Long Term Projects or Writing Assignments We're Working On
During Weeks 13 and 14 (November 28-December 13), Students are not currently working on a long-term project.
